As a family that spends dozens of nights a year in hotel rooms, we love looking for unique lodging to spend time in – and we found the latest edition in Columbus, Ohio. Hotel LeVeque not only surprised us with its exceptional service and location, it gave us a starry night without ever having to open the curtains. Here’s our honest review for Hotel LeVeque.
Hotel LeVeque – An Overview
So first, let’s chat about its location. Located in the iconic LeVeque Tower (if you’ve seen pics of the skyline you’ve undoubtedly seen it), the hotel sits in the heart of Downtown Columbus. The LeVeque Tower is so iconic because of its beauty and ornateness. Built in 1927 at the height of the Art Deco period, the building changed hands a couple of times to eventually be owned by John Lincoln and Leslie LeVeque. Fast forward to 1977 when the tower was officially named the LeVeque Tower.
The Hotel LeVeque, an Autograph Collection Hotel, has one of the coolest themes I’ve ever seen in regards to lodging. Wanting every guest to be a star from the moment they walk through the front door, the hotel really does cater to its guests. From the crystal and metal constellations on the wall in the main lobby to the telescopes in its guest rooms, the theme is fun and so hip.
Accommodations
The Kid and I love traveling together and, at 15 years old, she can admire the architecture and beauty of a hotel, which I love about her. Our Double Queen guest room on the seventh floor was a corner room (701, to be exact) and it was not only spacious, it was downright gorgeous.
Again, here’s where we saw that celestial theme shine. From the carpet to the wall art, the night sky theme was ever-present but not overbearing. The cool colors of silver and gray with white bedding was super relaxed. Add in the brass touches like the telescope and shelving and those pops of warm metallic were just enough.
In our guest room the view of the Scioto River and part of Scioto Park was so nice to check out, too. Again, our corner room had a wider range of view than, say, a traditional guest room and I have to write, I really enjoyed the extra windows. It was nice to see more of Columbus proper from the seventh floor.
Amenities
The overall hotel amenities are really good. There’s valet parking available (self-parking, too), a fitness center, and a bar/breakfast area on the second floor. Another great perk is the free wifi (I seriously wish all luxury hotels would jump on board the free wifi train) which worked beautifully during our visit. The valet parking was super simple, too: we texted our ticket number to the phone number given and received a text when our car was pulled around and ready.
If you’re a pet lover, you’ll love the fact that Hotel LeVeque is pet friendly. If you have pet allergies there should be no problem to let the front desk staff know. They’ll be happy to accommodate.
A Starry Night, Every Night
Hands down our favorite perk of visiting Hotel LeVeque was the complimentary nightly turndown service. After dinner a sweet lady from housekeeping showed up at our door with artisan chocolates for the both of us as an after-dinner treat. She then grabbed a star machine from the closet and set it up so, when the sun set, our ceiling came to life with stars and constellations.
I’m not kidding, waking up in the middle of the night was a pleasure. The room ceiling was so calming and pretty and I can’t recall sleeping so well in a hotel for a long time. I’m sure I can chalk that up to the super comfy beds, too.
What Else?
Although we didn’t partake, Hotel LeVeque has a really good continental breakfast option each morning at The Keep. For $15, there’s plenty to choose from including fruit and heartier options.
If you’re a Starbucks lover you’ll be happy – there’s one right off the lobby. We stopped there a couple of times for snacks and drinks during our visit.
In a Nutshell
Hotel LeVeque not only surprised us with its unique celestial theme, it exceeded our expectations by so much. The staff, the rooms, the ambiance, the view – you name it, it was fabulous from beginning to end. I recommend it in a heartbeat for families, solo travelers, and couples visiting Columbus, Ohio.
And, as a big city luxury hotel goes price wise, nightly stays start at just over $200 per night. That’s a good deal if you ask me. There’s also discounts for AAA/CAA members, senior discounts, and corporate & military rates as well.
Disclosure: I was hosted by the folks at Hotel LeVeque to give you fine folks the scoop on what makes the hotel so amazing for guests. I was not asked to state a particular point of view. all opinions are my own!
