The Grand Resort in Warren, OH, is a resort that’s been talked about continuously in my neck of the woods and for good reason. With its recent renovation, I was very curious to see what all of the fuss was about. I mean, can a Northeast Ohio resort have everything a traveling couple could want including a decent price for accommodations? Here’s my full review including photos and video.
Disclosure: We were graciously hosted by the fine folks at Grand Resort to give you the scoop on what you can expect when you visit. All opinions are my own!
Grand Resort Warren, Ohio: A Stay Overview
If you’ve never been to Warren, Ohio, it’s about 80 minutes from Pittsburgh proper and only 15 minutes from Youngstown, Ohio.
The Grand Resort has 132 guest rooms ranging from two double beds to massive Presidential and Grand Spa suites. For our visit, we had two queen beds. While I would have preferred a king room, our stay was last minute and they happily squeezed us in. Our room had a flatscreen television, bar and mini fridge area, and a nice bathroom. And even though there were two weddings going on, it was a very quiet stay.
A cool feature of staying at the resort is the fact you can hang out at the Avalon Lakes Country Club. You’re able to golf and dine (with additional fees, of course) but just knowing we could was a nice perk.
We also had access to loads of free amenities and activities during our visit (more on that below). My husband, ever the man’s man, had a favorite spot at the resort: The Cigar Lounge. With an entire wall of premium cigars to choose from (and a bar only steps away), he really enjoyed hanging out in the lounge with a cigar and a glass of scotch while watching a football game.

Is Grand Resort Pet Friendly?
Absolutely! We saw plenty of adorable furry cuties on our visit. Having written that, there are a finite number of rooms available for pets, so be sure to book well in advance.
Grand Resort Warren Pools
During our stay, we had our choice of two different pools. The indoor pool is both a family friendly pool and offers lap lanes for exercise.
But my favorite, above all, is the Roman Bath. And while I’ve seen photos of it, there was no way to see just how stunning it is unless in person. At night, even though it was under 30 degrees outside, the pool is always heated to 92. not one to skip such an experience, we fast walked in and out of it and it was fabulous, especially lit in blue lights.
Grand Resort Warren Spa & Salon
Ahh, the Grand Resort Spa & Salon. Offering everything to a vichy shower to facials, and makeup sessions, I had the pleasure of having a 60-minute massage. It was so very comforting to be in a darkly-lit room with calming music and a more-than capable masseuse.
And before or after my massage, I was able to sit in the communal room and enjoy some wine and snacks. There’s also a sauna and built-in steam rooms in the shower areas to use anytime during a visit, too.
Grand Resort Warren Free Activities
One of the biggest perks of staying at Grand Resort are the free activities and amenities. They range from indoor pickleball and tennis courts to pool and shuffleboard tables and video games. Yep, even the classic arcade games are free of charge. So, remember to pick up a wristband at the front desk to gain access to all of them including the pools.
On the lower level near the spa there’s a massive fitness center. During my stay, it was pretty packed as member of the country club and paid members can use it 24 hours a day. I did notice that it’s quieter in the early morning and at night if you like it that way.
As for the others, there’s free wifi and parking.
Grand Resort Warren: Golf
While we didn’t golf, the Grand Resort offers access to Avalon Lakes Country club and its links, which tallies four separate golf courses.
Additionally, there’s a virtual Indoor golf Center where you can golf famous courses from around he world any time of year.
Grand Resort Warren: Dining
To name all of the Grand Resort restaurants and food options would take a long time – Grand resort and its sister properties have dozens! So for this review, I’ll focus on the ones that we chose for dining.
For breakfast, we enjoyed the big buffet in the Atrium at the resort. Newish to the property, it was filled with everything from house made donut holes to eggs, breakfast meats, and even a yogurt bar.
For lunch, we loved our meals at the Havana Room in Buhl Park. The plate sizes are large and definitely splittable.
And for dinner we had the ultimate in classy Grand Resort service: Bogart’s. A truly top notch restaurant, the menu is creative and varied. We enjoyed a candied bacon amuse-bouche, cocktails, and Mr. Locke raved about the filet for days afterwards. But what really hit my radar was the top notch service. Our waiter was not only super pro at serving and recommending dishes, he was kind and really on top of things.
Grand Resort Warren In a Nutshell
Would I stay at Grand Resort again? In a hot second. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and I left the property relaxed and happy.
