Through the years and dozens of Walt Disney World vacations and visits, I’ve learned that there’s one thing I can never get enough of: pixie dust! And when it comes to those magical moments, it can really amp up your trip to the parks and resorts. Here’s how to get pixie dusted at Disney World and easy tips for making the most of it.
How to Get Pixie Dusted at Disney World – The Basics
If you’re not sure what Disney World (WDW) pixie dust is, essentially it’s being in the right place at the right time. Or it can be something as simple as asking the right question. Even more, it’s a way that Disney World castmembers (employees) can make magical moments in the parks and resorts just by being kind.
If you like Disney freebies, here’s a list of my favorite secret free things at Disney World.
Free Disney Pixie Dust Upgrades – What Are the Types
Pixie dust at Disney World can be anything to getting a free balloon on Main Street U.S.A. to free tickets and stickers to an after hour party to free dessert when it’s your birthday or anniversary.
Through the years, my family has had several. We’ve been lucky enough to be First Family at Magic Kingdom and open up the park with all of the Disney characters. And while it was on my Disney theme park bucket list, it was nothing more than having fun while waiting for rope drop.
I also remember when my daughter wasn’t feeling well for a Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and we ended up coming back on the bus to our resort. I went to the front desk to ask if I could receive a ticket refund and not only did the castmember refund all three of our tickets, she came out of the back room with a Mickey Mouse plush and balloon tied to his hand for my daughter.
Free Disney Pixie Dust Upgrade Tip- Chat with Castmembers
If there’s one thing I love when I’m visiting WDW, it’s having fun conversations with the castmembers. And while I don’t do it just to get free stuff, some really fun encounters have come of it.
So, when you’re standing around waiting for a ride or attraction, or simply asking a question, chatting with castmembers can definitely bring a pixie dust moment.
Free Disney Pixie Dust Upgrade – Be Nice
I have a rule in my life: be as kind as you can possibly be, and that particularly means to castmembers and employees. Kindness goes a long way and remember, they love Disney as much as you do.
I always say please, thank you, smile, and take time to share pleasant moments in our trip. If you go up to a castmember and are cranky, annoying, or downright mean, chances are pixie dust won’t come your way.
Free Disney Pixie Dust Upgrade – Wear a Celebration Button
Celebration buttons are one of the coolest free things you can get in the parks and resorts. You’ll find them at gust services and at almost every indoor register. They can be customized to suit your occasion (birthday, anniversary, or special celebration) and I highly suggest wearing them when you’re in the parks.
Not only will you get tons of “Happy Birthday!” or “Happy Anniversary” announcements from castmembers, you may even receive a free dessert at a quick service or table service restaurant. That’s happened to us on countless occasions.
Free Disney Pixie Dust Upgrade – Be Curious
I write this in the safest way possible, but curiosity has definitely caused some pixie dust for me. I remember on one of my first trips to Magic Kingdom I was curious about a wedding ring embedded in the ground in the Haunted Mansion standby queue. I couldn’t find it the last time I walked through so, before I hopped into line, I asked a castmember where I could locate it.
She said, “Come with me. I’ll show you.” So, she essentially let us hop to the front of the line where the ring is, showed it to us, and then let us stay at the front. We were able to see the ring and didn’t have to wait for 30 minutes in the standby queue.
Free Disney Pixie Dust – Resort Room Upgrade
There are two ways to get a free room upgrade a Disney World. The first is simply luck of the draw. If you’ve already checked-in before you arrive and the type of room you requested isn’t ready or they’ve over booked, you may receive an upgrade to a better room or location at the resort.
The second involves asking at the front desk when you’ve checked in if there are any room upgrades available. If there are, you may have a chance of getting a free upgrade. If not, the castmember will let you know the upgrade charge and you can choose to take it or stay in your original room. Again, be kind when you ask.
