Life is full of challenges and tough decisions. However, one of the most challenging decisions is leaving the family and flying overseas because you’re working abroad. There will always be a change in your routine and activities, making it tough to catch up with your children. Even if you send them money and gifts every month, that’s never enough to show your love and care to your children. Here are five ways to support your family when working abroad to help strengthen your relationship with your family without any hassle.

This is a staggering statistic, but roughly 5.4 million Americans live abroad. While the most common country is Mexico, thanks to its affordability, Canada and the United Kingdom aren’t far behind. Living in a new country can be exhilarating and fun, but it also means being away from your friends and family at length. If you’re planning on working abroad, here are important tips for keeping the home fires burning and your family happy.

Plan Regular Calls

One of the significant cornerstones of staying connected while working abroad is setting up regular calls with family and friends. Therefore, you must consider planning a schedule that will work across time zones and try to stick to it.

This consistency will provide a sense of normalcy and continuity in your relationship. Therefore, you should do your best to prioritize these calls just like any other important meeting. This way, you can interact and foster a sense of closeness. Happily, there are plenty of free and affordable means to both call and video chat.

I’m away from home, traveling frequently, and my favorite way is to hop on a video call with my husband, even if only for a few minutes at night while I’m getting ready for bed.

Celebrate Their Special Day

Being miles away doesn’t mean you can get a break from your paternal position in your children’s lives. You need to feel their presence as much as possible and appreciate their role in your life.

For this purpose, try to remember all the special dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, or any travel memories to cherish them. For you, these gestures may seem minor, but they go a long way to remind your kids that they have a responsible, caring, and loving father.

Be Their Emotional Pillar

No lie, the decision to stay away from your family will affect your children. This might result in making them emotionally vulnerable for your attention and care. You might even tell them how much you miss them and want to live around them.

But this isn’t as effective as celebrating their achievements and improvements in life. Doing this will boost their confidence as you will act as their emotional pillar to move forward. This will make them happy and satisfied.

Talk about Your Intention for the Future

When a parent is working abroad, it is common for children to develop negative thoughts related to the relationship. They might think you won’t be living and meeting them or haven’t thought about the future.

But the reality is different. So, consider telling your children about the steps you are planning for their brighter future if they are old enough to understand. This way, they will start respecting, admiring, and loving you more.

Support Them Financially

Last but not least, when it comes to strengthening your relationship with family and children, financial support plays a vital role. Therefore, you must find a secure and convenient way to send money.

For example, if you live in Niger, look for the best ways to transfer money to Niger such as Western union. Once you have a definite way to send money, you can send them money and gifts without any hassle and delay.
