There’s so much happy chat surrounding the live action remake of Disney‘s Beauty and the Beast that I’m happily following along with anticipation. With the anticipation comes inspiration for me! It’s this combination that got me back in the kitchen to create a delicious caramel white chocolate buttercream recipe inspired by the film. I took pieces from the movie (Belle’s iconic dress, pearls, and, of course the red rose) for the frosting decoration and love the classic tastes of both the dense caramel cupcake and white chocolate buttercream frosting.
Beauty and the Beast Cupcake Recipe
Recipe yields 12 cupcakes
Cupcake Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/2 Cup AP Flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch of salt
Cupcake Wet Ingredients
- 3/4 Stick of Butter (6 Tablespoons) Cubed and at Room Temperature
- 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/3 White Cup Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 2 Teaspoons Vanilla
- 1/2 Cup Milk
Combine dry ingredients into a small bowl. In a separate mixing bowl, add room temperature butter, white sugar, brown sugar, and eggs together. Beat until thoroughly mixed. Add in vanilla and milk and mix until combined. Slowly add in the dry ingredients and mix until you have a smooth, slightly runny batter.
Add cupcake batter into cupcake pan lined with 12 cupcake papers. Bake at 350 Degrees for 25 minutes (you may need to bake for five minutes more or less depending on your oven.) Cupcakes are done when top springs back. Allow to cool completely before frosting.
Frosting Ingredients
- 1 Bag White Chocolate Chips, Melted
- 1 bag Icing (Powdered) Sugar, Sifted
- Milk
- 1/2 Stick of Room Temperature Butter
- Wilton Gel food Coloring in Buttercup Yellow
Melt white chocolate chips in a double boiler using standard method. In a separate mixing bowl, 75% of the powdered sugar that’s been sifted. Slowly pour in melted white chocolate and beat on high until combined. Add in two tablespoons of milk then add in butter until you get the consistency you like. Using a toothpick, add in small amounts of gel food coloring until you get the color of Belle’s ballroom dress. Add to a piping bag and frost as you like. I used three different piping tips (Wilton 2A, 1M, and 2D) to get the three different frosting textures.
Beauty and the Beast Cupcake Decorations
- Candy Pearls
- Premade Red Roses from the cake making aisle
Feel free to decorate as above or get super creative! The roses were super easy to find – I bought mine at Walmart in the cake decorating aisle. I used tweezers to get the candy pearls just where I wanted them but you can feel free to sprinkle them on top or be more precise.
