Nestled amidst the beautiful scenery of southern Indiana, the French Lick area offers more than just award-winning wines. For a truly unique getaway, look no further than the Patoka Lake Winery Silo Suites – a charming and luxurious accommodation option steeped in history and vineyard charm. I recently had the pleasure of spending the night in one and it was so much fun I had to share my personal experience with you.
Patoka Lake Winery Silo Suites
I love everything about the Southern Indiana area. Not only are the quaint towns charming, but its larger cities are fun and filled with cool, historical attractions. One of my favorite cities on earth is French Lick, and for good reason. From the moment I drive past the sign letting me know I’m in town, it feels like I’m back in time.
Just this month, I was back in my happy place and spent a couple of days checking out unique lodging, one of the stops being the Patoka Lake Winery Silo Suites. Here’s everything you need to know about planning a visit.
Redefined Rustic
Forget the cramped quarters of a traditional cabin. The Patoka Lake Winery Silo Suites are anything but ordinary. These converted grain silos offer a spacious and stylish escape, perfect for a romantic retreat or a memorable weekend with close friends. I love the fact that each one is two stories tall, with plenty of room to move about. I had no idea grain silos were that large!
A Blend of Modern Comfort and Rustic Charm
Each two-story suite boasts a unique cylindrical layout. Ascend the curved staircase to find a luxurious king-sized bed nestled in the open upstairs bedroom. Large windows bathe the space in natural light, while the vaulted wooden ceilings create an airy feel. It’s easy to unwind after a day of exploring the Patoka Lake area in the jacuzzi tub.
While the two suites share a common patio area, it’s fun to savor the breathtaking vineyard views with a glass of Patoka Lake’s finest wine – all you need to do is head to the winery on the lower floor.
All the Comforts of Home
The downstairs living area truly does offer all the comforts of home. Curl up by the cozy fireplace and enjoy a movie on the flat-screen TV. The fully equipped kitchenette allows you to whip up a meal or enjoy a light breakfast before heading out to explore the winery and the lake. A convenient half-bath is also located downstairs, adding to the suite’s functionality. Word to the wise: make sure you bring your groceries with you to make meals, as it’s roughly 20 minutes to the closest grocery store.
The lower floor is where my husband spent most of his daylight hours as he was on a “workcation.” The free wifi made it easy for him to get his work done and I made the most of it by watching movies on my laptop. Additionally, there are two televisions in the suite so we never had to argue over what to watch.
Wine Country Indulgence
Your stay at the Silo Suites includes two free glasses of wine (one per person), allowing you to delve into the world of Patoka Lake Winery’s acclaimed vintages. Savor the fruits of the land and discover your new favorite wine, all within steps of your unique accommodation.
Known for its sweet wines, Patoka Lake Winery is a laidback spot. We were able to test drive a couple of selections before we committed to a full glass, and our suite visit included a free glass of wine or wine slushie for each of us. While its Black and Blue wine is the most popular, I enjoyed the other fruit wines just the same.
Beyond the Suite
While the Silo Suites themselves offer a luxurious escape, don’t miss out on exploring the winery and surrounding area. Take a leisurely stroll around the area, enjoy a picnic lunch on the picturesque grounds, or venture out to explore the nearby Patoka Lake State Park. With the Silo Suite, we were allowed to use the winery’s State Park Pass, so we didn’t have to pay an entry fee each time we drove back and forth.
