It’s no secret that visiting Walt Disney World can be expensive. Combine the cost of resort rooms, tickets, and dining and it’s no wonder that many folks save for years for their trip. But what if you can save money before you leave for your vacation by packing smartly? With these items usually found at Dollar Tree you’ll be able to save money before you even scan your Magicbands. Here’s what to buy at the Dollar Store for a Disney vacation: 10 must-buy things.
Sure, I’ve been guilty of buying a nine dollar bottle of Haunted Mansion-themed hand sanitizer and $20 light-up string toys for my daughter when we’ve visited Walt Disney World but I learned an important lesson. I didn’t need to to keep her happy. She was just as pleased with Dollar Tree Disney toys and other items from the store. Here’s my top things to buy at the dollar store before you leave for vacation.
Pro Tip: Check out the official Dollar Tree website, search Disney, and keep an eye out for the in-store selection it offers.
What to Buy at the Dollar Store for a Disney Vacation: Hand Sanitizer
You can wait and purchase hand sanitizer in the parks for upwards of five dollars for a small bottle, or find a multipack at Dollar Tree. I also like to buy a hand sanitizer holder that will snap onto my bag to I’ve got easy access to it.
My tip is to buy a small bottle that can be clipped to your bag and then refill it with a larger bottle each day.
What to buy at the Dollar Store for your Disney vacation: pain reliever
What to Buy at the Dollar Store for a Disney Vacation: Pain Reliever
Yes, you can absolutely head to any first aid station in the parks and ask for pain reliever, but if you know you’ll be needing it frequently, buying a bottle of ibuprofen or acetaminophen at Dollar Tree will save you time.
What to Buy at the Dollar Store for a Disney Vacation: Laundry Bag
Purchase a mesh laundry bag for a bag and throw it into a suitcase. Not only will it keep all of your dirty laundry in one place in your resort room, you can use it to carry your clothes to the laundrette (every on-property WDW resort has one) should you want to wash clothes on your trip.
What to Buy at the Dollar Store for a Disney Vacation: Baby/Toddler Wipes
My youngest is a teenager, but I still like to purchase a soft pack of baby or toddler wipes and throw them in my bag. They come in handy for spills, sticky hands, and even wiping down resort room hard surfaces in between cleanings.
What to Buy at the Dollar Store for a Disney Vacation: Travel Size Containers
I’ve checked prices in dept. stores – head to Dollar Tree for travel size beauty bottles. I like to take my own shampoo and conditioner with me, as well as facial lotion so they’re a must for this girl.
What to Buy at the Dollar Store for a Disney Vacation: Glow Sticks
Younger children will enjoy glow sticks from Dollar tree as much as a $20 light-up wand in the parks. Buy a few and leave them in your suitcase. Remember to pack a fresh one into your park bag each day and pass it out while you’re waiting for fireworks.
What to Buy at the Dollar Store for a Disney Vacation: Disney-Themed Toys
I’d love to give specifics here, but Dollar Tree Disney toys rotate pretty frequently. I start looking a month or two in advance and have found figurines, plush items, coloring books, story books and bubbles, too. Around the holidays I’ve found Halloween, Easter, and Christmas items – perfect for little surprises in the resort room!
Bonus: Keep an eye out for themed window clings that can be thrown in your suitcase. Folks love to decorate their resort room windows, especially around the holidays, and it’s a fun way to theme out your resort room! Another great score is to buy inflatable pool toys for the resort pools.
What to Buy at the Dollar Store for a Disney Vacation: Travel Toothbrushes
I like to swap out our toothbrushes at least every three months and I love buying new travel toothbrushes for each Disney vacation. Many times I can find multipacks so I don’t feel bad about pitching them at the end of the trip.
What to Buy at the Dollar Store for a Disney Vacation: Snacks for the Plane/Car
You can find plenty of snacking options at Dollar Tree. Especially when we’re road tripping, I pack the car with bottles water, trail mix, fruit snacks, chips – you name it – from Dollar Tree.
What to Buy at the Dollar Store for a Disney Vacation: Rain Ponchos
Central Florida is known for having pop-up rain storms compliments of the humidity. And, while you can buy a Disney rain poncho for nine dollars, buy them ahead of time at Dollar Tree and you’ll save eight bucks a piece.
